Dushanbe: Hosts FC Istiklol top the table in the AFC President's Cup Group C qualifiers thanks to a 75th minute strike from Ergashev Davronjon which sealed a hard fought 1-0 win over Palestine debutants Al Amma’ri Youth Club on Monday.
In the three-team qualifying round, Istiklol went to the top of the table with head-to-head superiority over Al Amma’ri who finished their qualification and will be waiting for the Istiklol clash with Balkan of Turkmenistan whom they had defeated in the opening match of the qualifiers on Saturday.
Ergashev scored the important winner for the host after both sides failed to score until the75th minute.
Istiklol will take on Balkan on Wednesday and a win or draw for Istiklol will help Al Amma’ri to get a ticket for the September finals. If Balkan beat Istiklol, the goal difference principle will come into effect and even the hosts can be in trouble if Balkan beat the hosts by a big margin.
